You adopted your best friend from CAA, now what?

It’s important that an adopter’s involvement at CAA doesn’t end at the time of adoption. That’s why the Companion Animal Alliance Alumni Association was created in February 2021, giving adopters an opportunity to stay connected with our animal-loving community post-adoption. For an annual fee of $75, members have access to resources, Alum merchandise and events exclusive only to those within the association – think a Dog Days of Summer BBQ and Dog Park LSU Tailgate.

As an Alumni Association Member, you have the opportunity to help further CAA’s mission of caring for the lost, abandoned and abused animals of East Baton Rouge while also experiencing the community that comes with being a CAA Alumnus.

*Upon the association’s establishment, all events are tentative as we monitor the impact of COVID-19.

Meet our Founding Members and their CAA Pets

William & Louise

“After moving back and forth a few years, I was ready for a dog. I knew I wanted to adopt, so I researched my initial options in the area. I made a Saturday afternoon appointment to visit CAA one weekend in November. I wasn't ready to bring anyone home that first day, but made an appointment for the next day after going out for some supplies. The next day I walked in and one of my top contenders was already adopted. I was heartbroken. I didn't want this to happen again. I went back two days later and went straight to find my new pup (Charolotte, now Louise).

We now love going on long walks around town, especially our daily walks to the Capital. Louise has brought great comfort, companionship, and so much more since I brought her home from CAA!”

Morgan & Caddy

“We took home ‘Cadet’ after losing our 1st CAA dog. We were new parents with a crying baby, and our house never felt so quiet without the tip-tap of puppy paws on our floors. While picking up medicine for our current foster, I saw a volunteer walking ‘Cadet,’ and I asked Robin about him. She mentioned that he was a great dog and that he was adopted and returned after his first adopter was deployed. Two weeks later, we took him home. His transition to our house was quite possibly one of the smoothest I have ever experienced (and I have fostered 100s of dogs). He fits like a glove but we knew there was one more test… I come from a very large family with kids running around constantly, and we wanted to make sure Caddy would enjoy that environment as much as we do. My nieces baptism was around the corner, and we said if he can fit in with 7 kids under the age of 9 then, he just might be the one. Needless to say, he fit in! The kiddos had a hard time remembering the name Cadet, and ‘Caddy’ was born and stuck. He adores his sister Cameron and is just the best man around. We are so thankful to have found him and are so lucky he is in our life.”

LIz & Beau

“Meet Beau Koh! Beau was found by one of my coworkers outside of WAFB Channel 9. She brought him into our break room and that’s when I saw his adorable face. We didn’t know if he wandered away from his home or if someone dropped him off. Fortunately, there was a local animal adoption group coming on the show that day. They took him to the shelter to see if he was microchipped or if someone would come to claim him. I visited CAA a couple of times to see if anyone did and no one had so I decided to adopt him. It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made! He has become the four-legged love of my life.”

Tripp & Rue

“Rue dog the kangaROO dog has been with us for around 5 months now and already fits in perfectly with the fam. He can be a little vocal at times but loves to hug and is a total cuddler. He enjoys long walks around the lakes and making friends with anybody that wants to pet him. He thinks Marley my chocolate lab is his mom and has a best friend named Oakley the silver lab, who he loves to cut up and fight for attention with. I am just so happy I was able to give him a home and he gave me another best friend.”

Alumni Association-Finn.jpeg

Ally & Finn

“I adopted Finn three years ago from CAA only because of the encouragement of fellow alumni member Morgan. I had wanted a pet for a long time but needed that extra push. Morgan brought me to CAA to just see for a quick lunch break and then a few days later I was bringing Finn home. He was the only cat who followed us around the catio the entire time and I loved his neutral buff color. If I had only known how much joy, love and laughs he would bring into my home, I would have been adopting from CAA so much sooner. I’m so thankful for CAA and especially Morgan for helping make the adoption happen!”
