Finder Foster

So you found a pet, now what?

After you’ve done everything to attempt to find this pet’s owner, consider fostering this pet until placement can be found!

Why should you foster the pet you found?

The shelter environment is very stressful for pets and adoption is never guaranteed.

CAA provides all veterinary care needed while in our foster program and other necessary resources needed to care for this pet, at no cost to you.

You are able to screen applications and select the best-fit home for this pet’s needs.

Fostering not only saves this pet from the stress of the shelter environment but also decreases the rate of euthanasia decisions being made here at the shelter.

finder-foster intake process

To be a part of our Finder Foster program, the found pet must come to the shelter for intake.

The pet will receive a brief medical exam and you will receive all of the information and resources about our foster program.

This process typically takes about 30 minutes and you will leave with the pet at the end!

Only roughly 10% of animals that enter the shelter will be found by their owners. In 2022 CAA took in ~9,000 animals and only ~900 of those animals were returned to their owners. YOU are this animal’s best advocate!

Found pets can be brought in on the mornings of Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday between 8:30 and 9:30. If this availability does not work for you, please schedule a “found animal drop off” appointment.
