Programs at CAA
Operating as East Baton Rouge’s only open-intake shelter, Companion Animal Alliance takes steps to ensure that we are offering as many programs as possible to benefit our shelter and its community. Through these programs, we are able to continue on our mission to save as many lives as possible.
Our Foster-to-Rehome allows current owners to continue caring for their pets in their homes with the ultimate goal of finding a better-suited home for their pets’ needs. This program can be utilized by those who are looking for assistance with rehoming their pets. This is a foster-based program that requires current owners to continue housing their pets while CAA assists them in promoting their pets for adoption. If accepted into this program, CAA will provide available resources, along with all medical care while the animal is in our program.
In June 2017, CAA began strategic outreach in 70805 and 70802, Baton Rouge’s two most under-served communities where 38% of residents live below poverty. This was the beginning of our Pets for Life program. This program removes barriers to resources for those facing socio-economic and geographic challenges by providing free animal medical care and other services to people and their pets who live in communities that lack access to affordable veterinary care.
Our transports help relocate adoptable pets to partner rescues in the New England area, creating greater space to save more animals at our Baton Rouge shelter. Many of our partner shelters have shortages of cats and dogs, allowing our shelter to fill a great need.
Animals have needs that range from food, water, and other basic necessities to more complex requirements, such as physical exercise, mental stimulation, and the ability to engage in natural, instinctual behaviors— our enrichment program provides dogs and cats with ways to exercise their natural instincts in safe, appropriate, and fun ways.
