Lost a pet?
Every year, Companion Animal Alliance takes in over 4,000 lost pets. CAA holds all dogs coming into the shelter for a 3-5 day stray hold period. Cats are held for a 5-day stray hold period if they have a microchip or collar with tags. Dogs and cats receive a full-body microchip scan at the time of intake. If identification is discovered, attempts are made to contact owners over the course of the 5-day stray hold period. Read the below-recommended steps to finding your lost pet!
Check online for automatic updates

Utilize social media
When you post, include a photo, location last seen, and date last seen. Lost Pets of Baton Rouge, Lost Pets of Zachary, Lost Pets of Central City, and Baton Rouge Lost and Found Pets on Facebook.
Spread the word
Post notices at local shops, libraries, dog parks, veterinary offices, community centers, pet stores, etc. Advertise a FREE three-line lost or found pet ad in the Advocate by calling (225)383-0111. Write in glass chalk on your car windows and reach out to your neighborhood association email list.
Search the neighborhood
Walk or drive through your neighborhood several times each day. Ask neighbors, letter carriers, and delivery people if they have seen your pet. Hand out flyers.
